ACID 5: Davina the Dragon

Today's ACID takes a look at a creature of legend. Davina the Dragon is a beast of an art car that has, until recently, kept a lair in the infamous deserts of Burning Man beginning in 2012. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, Davina was created in 2010 by Christian Breeden and his friends out of an old Grand Marquis and scrap metal. This fire breathing lady is equipped with people powered animatronics, fire breathing capabilities, and a lyra for the wandering aerialist.

Davina was initially named after Breeden's recently departed father, David. While she may go by a new moniker these days, she has maintained her spot as a part of the family--not just the creators of this art car but all of those who meet her as well. Davina aims to create the type of mythical experience that becomes legend in the lives her newfound friends. In her time she has seen people fall in love and get married atop her back, the celebration of anniversaries and friendships, performers inspired to join aerial arts after playing on the lyra, and children who took her magic and created some of their own.

The harsh climate of the playa has taken its toll on Davina who, in September 2017, sought the help of her expansive family to bring her back home to Virginia. A successful GoFundMe campaign brought the dragon home, where she'll be nursed back to good health before her next adventure. As King of the Chill gears up for our own adventures, we hope to create as memorable of an experience for our friends as Davina!
