China's Islamophobia
Once again, I’m not devoting enough time to my writing. I’m juggling too much. I’m keeping this one short. I can always edit it later!
I wanted to repost an article about how China destroyed most of their mosques. Yes, most. According to reports from late 2023, satellite imagery estimates that 75% of the mosques in Xinjiang have been destroyed. There are numerous recent articles detailing this systematic eradication, which I encourage you to read. For instance, The Guardian and BBC have comprehensive coverage on this topic, I just hate them too much to share. You can find these stories easily.
It turns out that while the least tolerant people in the world were screaming about Jews/Israel defending itself, using mindless chants like “min il-ṃayye la-l-ṃayye / Falasṭīn ʿarabiyye" ("from the water to the water / Palestine will be Arab"), a much bigger country was destroying mosques without them posing a security risk. No weapon stockpiles were needed for China to do what so many Communist societies have long done.
Did you hear about this from the Red Army and Islamists defending Palestine? Did you see a single “Fatty for Palestine” or “Queers for Palestine” protest against the destruction of SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT of mosques in China or Uyghur internment?
Of course not. No Jews, no news.
My favorite article on this topic comes from the Financial Times. It’s just a really aesthetic/beautiful page. Check out the link directly: How China is tearing down Islam. tl;dr: The article discusses the systematic destruction of mosques and religious sites in Xinjiang, China, as part of the government's campaign against Uyghur Muslims. When the mosques are not demolished altogether, their Arab imagery, especially domes, are removed, and the mosques are repurposed. Sounds really dark to me, a Zionist jew.
The most telling thing in this article is a graph that shows that the more Muslim an area of China is, the more likely China was to remove their mosques. China don’t play!
Actually, neither does Jordan or UAE, which tear down their own hotbeds of terrorism. When Muslim states tear down mosques, nobody cares. When Communist states tear down mosques, nobody cares. But when Israel responds to rockets being shot from a mosque, there are global protests about from our haters.
Why do we entertain such double standards? In Miami, Florida, near to a Jewish area, there is a tax-exempt mosque that described Jews as “apes and pigs,” while praying for their “annihilation.” The MSM hardly wrote about that mosque. In a few cases, journalists referred to an imam calling to annihilate the Jews as “criticism of Israel.”
Let’s be real: China would have responded by jailing the imam, confiscating the property, and sending all the radicalized students to a camp. And nobody would say a word. Certainly not the Marxist larpers who defend anything Russia and China does, aka the majority of modern Palestine Supporters in coastal US.
I sympathize greatly with the loss of a distinct culture. And Uyghurs do have a cohesive culture, unlike the distinct tribes and immigrants of Palestine. However, I am even more focused on the fact that this story is often ignored, much like the stories of Muslim states destroying non-kosher artifacts. For instance, in 2001, the Taliban in Afghanistan destroyed the Buddhas of Bamiyan, monumental statues that were an integral part of the region's cultural heritage. ISIL, during its occupation from 2014 to 2017, destroyed countless churches in Iraq and Syria. [Side note: ISIL should have just called itself Hamas 2 or PIJ 2, because apparently those names, which mean the same thing as ISIL, are not seen as a similar threat] In Bangladesh, numerous Hindu temples have faced destruction amidst communal tensions. The horrors faced by the Yazidi in Iraq extend far beyond the destruction of their shrines, with reports of systematic rape and violence against Yazidi women and children (Amnesty International, 2014). [Note 2: A standalon story on Yazidi children is warranted].
Much like in my article “1 in 193: Can you explain this disproportionate focus?”, I just want to ask you why there is such disproportionate attention given to one situation while largely ignoring others.
